Tony Awards

The Tony Awards were on last night. I wouldn't say I'm a huge theater geek or anything (but heaven knows there are plenty of OTHER things I geek out about), but I do love me some Broadway. I also love Neil Patrick Harris, who was hosting last night. There was also the promise of seeing Stephen Colbert dancing around in a pork pie hat. How could I stay away?

How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying stars Daniel Radcliffe. Here's a clip:

I think Daniel Radcliffe is a great actor, and I'm sure he's going to have a very long and fulfilling career. I have no doubts that he's going to be a major star. Remember back in the days of Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire, when movie stars weren't just actors - they were also singers and dancers? To be a star required you to be a really well-rounded entertainer. I see that in Daniel Radcliffe. He's destined for big things. And yet...we all know how we're going to see him. Doesn't matter how well rounded he is, how many plays he's in, or how many awards he wins. We'll remember where he started. "You're a wizard, Harry..."

Back to the Tonys! The highlights included this bit with NPH and Hugh Jackman. It's just delicious. My favorite part is the dancing part in the middle. Though the waltz at the end is pretty awesome, too.

And then there was this number which reunited the cast of Company. That was seriously an awesome cast. Patty LuPone? NPH? John Cryer? Martha Plimpton? Stephen Colbert? Yes, please!

There was also the...adventurous outfit worn by Whoopi Goldberg! I think we last saw that hat on Captain Barbossa!

And The Book of Mormon musical won a bunch of awards. Nine, I believe. You know, there are lots of people who were upset about The Book of Mormon musical. It ruffled a lot of feathers. I know that it pokes fun at Mormons. I'm sure there's probably plenty of jokes that are in poor taste. But it's written by the South Park guys, so what do they expect? The musical has never bothered me. If they want to say that Mormons are annoyingly cheerful and wholesome, it doesn't offend me. And I thought the song they performed at the Awards last night was funny:

I don't really understand the part about Kolob being a planet. Or about Jesus having his own planet. But...whatever. Maybe I fell asleep that day when it was covered in Seminary. hee!

Finally, there was a little dose of schadenfreude in the form of Brooke Shields. (Sorry - I couldn't find an embeddable file!). She flubs her line in the opening not once but twice, and then later has to get bleeped when she swears while presenting. Such a nice way to round out the evening. Oh, Brooke!

I wish I had seen these now! I never knew they were happening, but hey, I don't even know what day it is most of the time, so...
Anyway, too bad Brooke had to be bleeped, it takes away from the show!

When I took a humanities class from a mormon hater the #1 thing she would always bring up was Jesus having his own planet...I musta missed that day in seminary too.

We enjoyed the Tony's also...favorite part was NPH and Hugh. So fun! For the rest of the night (We watched it a day late) we sang "I am a MOrmon" but we added our own words!

You really think Daniel Radcliffe is destined for big things? I think he peaked as Harry Potter. I wouldn't be surprised to see him in a Wayans brothers spoof movie.

NPH and Hugh Jackman are fantastic together. I nominate them as cohosts for every major hollywood award show. And a guest spot for Hugh on HIMYM too. He can suit up with Barney. It would be legen. Wait for it....
