It's THAT Day

It's my birthday, y'all! As my good friend peewee pointed out, I should have given you advanced notice so that you could have showered me with gifts in a timely manner. What can I say? Mea culpa.

We found out yesterday that my husband lost his job. It was really a shock to me, because yesterday was his first day back after the whole kidney stone debacle. He'd been out of work for almost 6 weeks, so we were looking forward to him getting back into the routine. But apparently while he was gone, they managed OK without him which made them realize that he wasn't really necessary. The official reason given was that his position "was being eliminated due to company restructuring." It was truly horrible news, since it's such a rotten time to be looking for a job. I'm trying to stay optimistic. It's frightening, but we're not entirely destitute. This situation could be so, so much worse. And he promises that since he'll be home, he'll do things like regularly take out the garbage and mow the lawn! See? There's always a silver lining.

Another silver lining is that two of the cutest Girl Scouts you've ever seen came to my door and sold me cookies yesterday. I drowned my sorrows in a box of Tagalongs.

And today one of the doctors I work with brought in some Sprinkles cupcakes.

It's a good day for a sugar coma!

Ouch, Happy Birthday indeed. That sucks, sorry for the hubs.
Hopefully the sprinkles helped. OK, who am I kidding. Even sprinkles can't help news like that!
Well, Happy Birthday anyway.

So...you're saying if I include some cupcakes in the deal, you'll let me come over and cheer you up by watching iCarly together?

I promise, I will EVENTUALLY stop talking about it. iCarly. iCarly. Carlysamfreddiespencer. It's a sickness. Tv show tourettes is a real thing. You can google it.

i'm glad you're being so open about it. i think my mom lost out on a lot of support by keeping my dad's layoff a secret for so long. of course, it would have taken, what? two days? maybe three? before i asked if you and matt were carpooling to work.

could i have picked a worse day to come by??? it would have been so "siobhan" of me to say, "hey! but last year you bought x more boxes!" "lick the...!" okay, i can't even type it...

you'll be alright. it will probably be hard and uncomfortable and not fun for a while, but you'll be alright. we love you. happy birthday!

Oh my goodness! I can't believe he lost his job :-( I'm so sorry, Nikol! As a former Girlscout, I know that we can sense sorrow and that cookies always turn that around. Boo! Let me know if there is anything I can do!
