Have you ever read The Jungle by Upton Sinclair? All about the meat packing industry and how gross it is? Or seen a movie like Food, Inc. that shows the frightening side of commercial food production? For whatever reason, I am drawn to these topics, even though I walk away feeling sickened and a little hopeless. Oh, our food is not only really bad for us in terms of nutrition, but it's also tainted! It's just cleverly disguised horror! Take, for example, the above photo. It calls to mind ice cream or bubble gum, doesn't it?Nope. It's mechanically separated chicken. It’s what all fast-food chicken is made from. Stuff like chicken nuggets and patties. Basically, the entire chicken is smashed and pressed through a sieve. Everything: bones, eyes, guts, and all. It comes out looking like pink putty. But it's pink putty that's crawling with bacteria! So, to kill the bacteria, it will be washed with ammonia. Soaked in it, really. This would of course make it taste nasty, so it's then artificially re-flavored. And it will be dyed with artificial color, since no one wants pink chicken.
Oh, the horror.

I don't remember what I was going to say about the nuggets. I got so distracted by peewee's comment about Shamrock Shakes. I love them soooo much but we can't get them here. Boo!!

fyi - I thought the picture was frozen yogurt and that you were going to be speaking about the bacteria that lurks in the yogurt machines...
That makes me want to barf. How come the patties and nuggets don't look all creamy like that on the inside though?

No true. Almost all companies use real meat now that is why there is muscle grain and they state all white meat(Wendy's McD's,..). This is probably headed to dog food (e.g. crude protein per the dog food bag.) That is why dog food is in nice shapes. You can mold it to what you want.
