Cringeworthy: Sweet Sixteen

Let me take you on a journey back to the year 1991. I was the at the tender age of sixteen, and of course my diary was filled with entries about boys. Who I liked and who liked me, whether I should date so-and-so, who was dating whom, etc. I had been dating this guy named Paul who I'd met when he was serving a mission for our church here in San Diego. After his mission, he went home to Florida and promptly moved back. I think he was here for a week before we were pawing at each other. Good times! Anyway, he was in his early 20's and I was 16. After a couple months of making out, he decided that he was too old for me (probably true at that age), and that we needed to just be friends. Here is the diary entry from after our break up. You can tell I was broken hearted:

Apparently, I also wrote his entry with a purple highlighter. I love how we were going to be "friends, buds, compadres." And we'd still make out on the sly go out on weekends occasionally, even though we would not be dating.

Have you missed my diary entries? I need to post more of them, don't I? They're jolly good fun. I think I might need to blind some of them, though, since I still hang out with a lot of these people. But I don't want to deprive you of the joy they bring. I'll try to post one a week.

Also? Morrissey FOREVER!!!

This must be the first diary entry since I started reading your blog. Did you name your diary Amanda?

I didn't keep a diary when I was a teen. I had a little sister. It was too risky. But if I had, I'm sure it would have read about the same! :-)

Oh, you should go back and read the few I've posted before. They're a hoot.

I named my dairy Amanda at the tender age of 8, when I received my first diary from my Grandmother as a birthday gift. I had just recently read the Diary of Anne Frank, and she named her diary Kitty. I don't know why I chose the name Amanda. But I called my diary that all through my teen years.

HA! I said I named my "dairy" Amanda in that last comment. Sorry. I need to proofread before hitting submit!

I really like your blog! I'm a new author and have enjoyed this new experience. I find that it's the most difficult and most rewarding. I'm also a graphic designer and love having that creative outlet as well.
Thanks for your post! I will be back for more updates. :-)

Yes! More Amanda please! I can only imagine what my sixteen year old ramblings might have been like. I'm both sad and relieved I didn't keep a journal. And yes...MORRISEY FOREVER!!

We're the exact same age and I'm POSITIVE that more than one Morrissey Forever slogan litters the papers in my box of nostalgia. Also, I quoted "I wear black on the outside because black is how I feel on the inside, and if I seem a little strange, that's because I am" ad nauseum. And I didn't even wear much black.

I have a feeling you and I could have been BFFs. My whole world centered around boys. Who I liked. Who liked me. And even cute missionaries.
